5 Race Day Tips

1- Prepare for the weather!

Melbourne is renowned for having 4 seasons in one day, and the weather at the moment is extra crazy! Don’t get stuck without an umbrella, because no one wants to be that girl with the perfectly styled hair who gets stuck in a random downpour of rain! Instead, be the girl who calmly pulls out her trusty umbrella and protects her friends’ hair!

On the other hand, keep some classic sunglasses and sunscreen in your bag for when the sun comes out! Classic black pairs go with everything but a metallic reflector pair of sunglasses are very on trend.

Try Miranda Kerr’s Kora Organics Tinted Day Cream with sun filters

2- Wear comfy shoes!

There’s nothing worse than going out for a whole day and not being comfortable in your shoes! Sure, your favourite sky high stilettos might make your legs look aah-mazing, but some lower block heeled shoes will be way better suited to a day on the field. And stilettos sink into the grass, especially after the rainy weather we’ve been having – ew! Try for some 3 inch block heels, lace up styles are really popular at the moment and readily available for heaps of different places! Don’t be ‘that girl’ wandering around, heels in hand at 3pm…

3- Be yourself, don’t follow every single trend!

The racing season is the perfect time to buy that statement dress you’ve been lusting over forever but don’t use it as an excuse to be a walking mannequin of every current trend! If you want to show off your knowledge of fashion trends, choose one part of your look to be “trendy” and keep the rest classic. Of course don’t forget about the headwear which is a must at the races! If you’re wearing a statement dress, why not pair it with a simple bejewelled headband. On the other hand, if you are wearing a plain coloured dress turn your headwear into the focal point with bold feathers or quirky cat ears!

For example, if you wear a simple off the shoulder floral dress, keep the accessories to simple tan heels and a simple clutch. Pair our Lost In Time top and skirt with this simple white Sportsgirl clutch and a statement fascinator like this one from Morgan and Taylor.

4- Be organised!

One thing thats worse than forgetting your umbrella when it rains, is forgetting your Myki card when you get to the train station! No one wants to get a fine that could have been avoided! Pack your bag the night before so there’s no rush in the morning and you can focus on looking your beautiful best! Make sure to pack your Myki (and concession card if you use one), ID and essential credit cards or cash to get you there and back. Pack travel sized makeup essentials so you can top up if need be throughout the day – think lipstick, mascara and extra foundation! Of course, a couple of bandaids always come in handy too!

Try:

Maybelline Superstay foundation

Maybelline Fit Me Powder foundation

Stila Stay All Day Lipstick (it actually stays all day!)

5-  Stay Hydrated!

A long day of looking fabulous and socialising is thirsty work – remember to make use of the free water available! Just because a flute of bubbles looks great as an accessory doesn’t mean you have to keep one in your hand at all times! Keep it fun but keep it classy – you wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself in front of that celebrity that you’ve been crushin’ on all year :O
